What is NZEB?

Definition: 'Nearly Zero Energy Buildings', NZEB means a building that has a very high energy performance where the nearly zero or very low amount of energy required should be covered to a very significant extent by energy from renewable sources including energy from renewable sources produced on-site or nearby“.

When does NZEB become mandatory?

It is intended to have the Regulations signed by 19th April 2019 with 6 months proposed to application:

  • TGD L 2019 Dwellings and TGD F 2019 intended to apply to new Dwellings commencing construction from  1st November 2019 subject to transition.
  • Transitional arrangements intended to allow TGD L 2011 - Dwellings and TGD F2009 to be used where  planning approval or permission has been applied for on or before  31st October 2019  and substantial completion is completed within 1 year i.e. by 31st October 2020

The draft  implementation arrangements of Part L 2019 for NZEB are as follows:

These Regulations shall apply to works, to a building in which a material change of use takes place or to a building which undergoes a major renovation, where the relevant works, change of use or major renovation commence or take place, as the case may be, on or after 31 October 2019 except where:

(a) a planning application is made on or before 31 October 2019 for planning permission or approval pursuant to the Planning and Development Act 2000 (No. 30 of 2000) and where substantial work has been completed by 31 October 2020; or

(b) a notice pursuant to the provisions of Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (S.I. No. 600 of 2001) has been published on or before 31 October 2019 and where substantial work has been completed by 31 October 2020.

What Certification is offered on this course?

All of the NZEB courses are City and Guilds Quality Assured and a certificate and digital badge will be issued to participants on successful completion of the course

How much does each course cost?

All courses are fully funded under the Skills to Advance Initiative. Skills to Advance is a SOLAS initiative in partnership with ETBs and supported by Government.
